त॑ं दृष्टवा तस्य दुर्बुद्धेरविन्ध्य: पापनिश्चयम् । शमयामास संक्रुद्धं श्रूयतां येन हेतुना,दूषित बुद्धिवाले उस निशाचरके इस पापपूर्ण निश्चयकों जानकर मन्त्री अविन्ध्यने समझा-बुझाकर उसका क्रोध शान्त किया। किस मुक्तिसे उसने रावणको शान्त किया, यह बताता हूँ, सुनो--
taṁ dṛṣṭvā tasya durbuddher avindhyaḥ pāpaniścayam | śamayāmāsa saṅkruddhaṁ śrūyatāṁ yena hetunā ||
Mārkaṇḍeya nói: Thấy rõ quyết tâm tội lỗi của kẻ tâm trí đen tối ấy, tể tướng Avindhya đã dỗ y nguôi khi y đang bừng bừng phẫn nộ. Hãy nghe ta kể nguyên do khiến y dịu lại—cách lời khuyên kịp thời đã ngăn ý định ác và bẻ hướng cơn giận khỏi con đường hủy diệt.
