Sāvitrī-Upākhyāna: Dyumatsena’s Restoration and the Return to Kāmyaka

Conclusion

Educational Q&A

The verse frames righteous kingship as restoration of order through legitimate combat against enemies, while strictly avoiding harm to the innocent—here emphasized by the vow not to harm Janaka’s daughter (Sītā).

Mārkaṇḍeya, while recounting a Rāmāyaṇa-linked episode within the Vana Parva, voices (or reports) a resolve to re-establish rule in Ayodhyā after defeating foes in battle, explicitly declaring that Sītā will not be harmed.
