Mahābhārata 3.214
संधौ संधौ संनिविष्ट: सर्वेष्वपि तथानिल: । शरीरेषु मनुष्याणां व्यान इत्युपदिश्यते,वही जब मनुष्य-शरीरके प्रत्येक संधिस्थलमें व्याप्त होकर रहता है, तब उसे व्यान कहते हैं
sandhau sandhau sanniviṣṭaḥ sarveṣv api tathānilaḥ | śarīreṣu manuṣyāṇāṃ vyāna ity upadiśyate ||
Người thợ săn nói: “Luồng sinh khí ấy, khi thấm khắp thân người, an trú ở mọi khớp nối và lan qua mọi chi thể—các bậc hiền triết dạy rằng đó là Vyāna.”
व्याध उवाच
The verse defines Vyāna among the vital airs: it is the life-wind that pervades the whole body and is especially described as being present at every joint, enabling pervasive distribution and coordinated bodily function.
In the Vyādha’s instruction, he explains subtle knowledge about the body and prāṇa to his listener, using a physiological description of the vital airs to support a broader ethical-spiritual teaching grounded in dharma and disciplined understanding.
