Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction
मानसेन हि दुःखेन शरीरमुपतप्यते । अय:पिण्डेन तप्तेन कुम्भसंस्थमिवोदकम्,“क्योंकि मनमें दुःख होनेपर शरीर भी संतप्त होने लगता है; ठीक वैसे ही, जैसे तपाया हुआ लोहेका गोला डाल देनेपर घड़ेमें रखा हुआ शीतल जल भी गरम हो जाता है
mānasena hi duḥkhena śarīram upatapyate | ayaḥpiṇḍena taptena kumbhasaṃstham ivodakam ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: “Hễ trong tâm khởi sầu khổ thì thân cũng bị nó thiêu đốt—như nước trong vò trở nên nóng khi người ta thả vào đó một khối sắt đỏ rực.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Mental suffering does not remain confined to the mind; it spreads into the body and burns it as well. The verse highlights ethical-psychological awareness: guarding the mind and addressing grief is essential because inner distress has tangible consequences.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, states a general truth using a vivid simile: just as cool water in a pot becomes hot when a heated iron ball is put into it, the body becomes afflicted when the mind is filled with sorrow.
