kurūṇām ṛṣabhaṃ pārtha pūjayitvā mahātapāḥ |
saha bhrātṛbhir āsīnaṃ paryapṛcchat tad-ānāmayam ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Vị đại khổ hạnh, sau khi kính lễ và tiếp đãi đúng phép Yudhiṣṭhira—bậc “ngưu vương” trong dòng Kuru, hỡi Pārtha—rồi khi ngài đã an tọa cùng các huynh đệ, liền ân cần hỏi thăm sự an ổn của ngài.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct in conversation: one should first honor the worthy (especially a righteous king or elder) and then begin with a compassionate inquiry into their welfare (ānāmaya), establishing respect and goodwill before any further discussion.
A great ascetic meets Yudhiṣṭhira, respectfully receives him as the foremost of the Kurus, and after Yudhiṣṭhira sits with his brothers, the ascetic asks about his well-being—setting a courteous, dharma-centered tone for the ensuing dialogue.
