Devas and Viṣṇu on the Kāleyas; Approach to Agastya

Educational Q&A

The passage underscores the epic motif of cosmic order being defended through vigilant protection and decisive action: when destructive forces gather and threaten the worlds, the guardians of order (the Devas, led by Indra) respond, even if the conflict becomes terrifying and widespread.

Gigantic Kālakeya Daityas, armed and stationed all around, are guarding their side; a fierce battle erupts between the Devas and the Dānavas. With Indra’s arrival, the fighting intensifies and continues for a measured duration, described as so dreadful that it frightens the three worlds.
