Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma as lived character: true eminence is shown through nobility, good lineage expressed as good conduct, modesty (hrī), and adherence to a livelihood consistent with one’s ethical and social responsibilities (brāhmī vṛtti).

Vaiśaṃpāyana describes the principal Brahmins residing in a particular village, emphasizing their exemplary qualities—nobility, respectable family standing, modest demeanor, and faithful observance of Brahmin-appropriate conduct—setting a moral tone for the surrounding episode.
