Educational Q&A

A ruler’s moral stance is not merely private: wrongdoing that threatens dharma may be named and censured publicly, before all sections of society, so that ethical norms are reaffirmed and responsibility is fixed.

In the tense pre-war negotiations of the Udyoga Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira declares that he will openly denounce Duryodhana before citizens and rural subjects alike, with elders and children present, and before the assembled four varṇas—signaling a move toward public moral judgment amid political crisis.
