Dvārakāyāṃ Sāhāyya-vibhāgaḥ (Alliance Allocation at Dvārakā) / उद्योगपर्व अध्याय ७
भवांस्तु कीर्तिमॉल्लोके तद् यशस्त्वां गमिष्यति । यशसां चाहमप्यर्थी तस्मादसि मया वृत:
bhavāṁstu kīrtimāṁl loke tad yaśas tvāṁ gamiṣyati | yaśasāṁ cāham apy arthī tasmād asi mayā vṛtaḥ ||
Arjuna thưa: “Ngài vốn lừng danh trong thiên hạ; dù Ngài ở đâu, danh tiếng ấy cũng theo Ngài đến đó. Con cũng khát cầu vinh quang; vì thế con đã chọn Ngài.”
अर्जुन उवाच
The verse highlights the social-ethical power of yaśas (reputation): a person of established merit carries their fame wherever they go, and association with such a person is sought as a means to share in honor and legitimacy.
Arjuna addresses the person he is selecting, praising their widespread renown and stating that he has chosen them because their fame will accompany them—benefiting Arjuna as well, who desires glory.
