Dvārakāyāṃ Sāhāyya-vibhāgaḥ (Alliance Allocation at Dvārakā) /
śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca | bhavān abhigataḥ pūrvam atra me nāsti saṁśayaḥ | dṛṣṭas tu prathamaṁ rājan mayā pārtho dhanaṁjayaḥ ||
Kṛṣṇa distinguishes between mere precedence of arrival and precedence of rightful attention: even if Duryodhana came first, Kṛṣṇa grants primacy to the one he ‘saw first’—a subtle ethical framing that shifts the basis of priority from claim-making to the manner of approach and the relationship of trust.
On the eve of war, Duryodhana and Arjuna come to Kṛṣṇa seeking support. Duryodhana argues he arrived first and should be helped first. Kṛṣṇa replies that although Duryodhana indeed arrived earlier, Kṛṣṇa’s first sight fell upon Arjuna (Pārtha), establishing Arjuna’s precedence in Kṛṣṇa’s response.
