Etymology of Wealth and the Gurudakṣiṇā Predicament of Gālava
Viśvāmitro ’tha taṃ dṛṣṭvā Gālavaṃ cādhvani sthitaḥ | uvāca vadatāṃ śreṣṭho Vainateyasya saṃnidhau ||
Bấy giờ, Viśvāmitra thấy Gālava đang ở trên đường liền đứng dậy và—bậc nhất trong lời nói—cất tiếng bảo chàng ngay trước mặt Vainateya (Garuḍa).
Wise speech carries ethical force: when a sage renowned for truthful, effective counsel speaks—especially before a powerful witness—his words are meant to orient action toward dharma and responsible resolution of one’s obligations.
Viśvāmitra notices Gālava traveling on the road and stops to address him, with Garuḍa (Vainateya) present. The verse sets the stage for guidance or instruction that follows in the episode.
