All processes of becoming and ending—creation (sarga), dissolution (pralaya), and every transformation (vikriyā)—depend on a single ultimate cause, the Supreme Self. Recognizing this grounds dharma in humility and devotion, reducing ego-driven attachment to transient outcomes.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and higher truths. Here he pauses to offer a reverential salutation (namaḥ) to the Lord as the causal principle into whom the cosmos arises and into whom it returns.
