अपुण्यपुण्योपरमे यं॑ पुनर्भवनिर्भया: । शान्ता: संन्यासिनो यान्ति तस्मै मोक्षात्मने नम:,पाप और पुण्यका क्षय हो जानेपर पुनर्जन्मके भयसे मुक्त हुए शान्तचित्त संन्यासी जिन्हें प्राप्त करते हैं, उन मोक्षरूप परमेश्वरको नमस्कार है
apuṇyapuṇyoparame yaṁ punarbhavanirbhayāḥ | śāntāḥ saṁnyāsino yānti tasmai mokṣātmane namaḥ ||
Bhishma nói: Khi cả tội lẫn phước đều đã tiêu tận, những bậc xuất gia an tịnh—thoát khỏi nỗi sợ tái sinh—sẽ đạt đến Ngài. Xin đảnh lễ Đấng Tối Thượng mà tự tánh chính là Mokṣa, sự giải thoát.
भीष्म उवाच
Both demerit and merit are ultimately binding within saṁsāra; liberation is described as the state reached when these karmic residues are exhausted and the mind is tranquil through renunciation, culminating in attainment of the Supreme who is identified with mokṣa itself.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhīṣma offers a reverential statement: he salutes the Supreme Lord, explaining that peaceful renunciants, freed from fear of rebirth, attain Him when the forces of sin and merit have come to cessation.
