विप्रक्षत्रियवैश्यानां शुश्रूषा शूद्रकर्म तत्‌ गृहस्थधर्मो नागेन्द्र सर्वभूतहितैषिता

viprakṣatriyavaiśyānāṁ śuśrūṣā śūdrakarma tat | gṛhasthadharmo nāgendra sarvabhūtahitaiṣitā ||

Bhīṣma nói: “Với một Śūdra, bổn phận được quy định là phụng sự (hầu hạ tận tâm) ba đẳng cấp: Brāhmaṇa, Kṣatriya và Vaiśya. Còn với người gia chủ, hỡi chúa tể loài rắn, cốt lõi của dharma chính là ước nguyện mưu cầu lợi ích cho mọi loài hữu tình.”
