केनैष धर्म: कथितो देवेन ऋषिणापि वा
Janamejaya uvāca | kenaiṣa dharmaḥ kathito devena ṛṣiṇāpi vā, bhagavan? asya bhaktirūpasya dharmasya kaḥ devatā vā ṛṣiḥ vā upadeṣṭā? ananya-bhaktānāṃ jīvanacaryā kā? sa ca kadā prācīnaḥ pravṛttaḥ? mama saṃśayaṃ nivāraya; etad-viṣayaṃ śrotuṃ mama manasi mahān autkaṇṭhyaḥ ||
Vua Janamejaya thưa: “Bạch tôn giả, pháp này do ai thuyết dạy—một vị thần hay một bậc hiền thánh (ṛṣi)? Ai là người đầu tiên chỉ bày pháp mà tự thân là Bhakti—lòng sùng kính? Nếp sống của những người một lòng một dạ sùng kính là thế nào, và truyền thống ấy đã được thực hành từ thời nào? Xin trừ nghi cho con; tâm con khát khao được nghe về điều này vô cùng.”
