Nārāyaṇasya Guhya-nāmāni Niruktāni (Etymologies of Nārāyaṇa’s Secret Epithets) /

Educational Q&A

At death one goes alone; social ties and worldly supports cannot accompany a person. Only one’s own karma—merit (sukṛta) and sin (duṣkṛta)—follows and shapes the post-mortem journey, urging ethical living and responsibility.

Nārada admonishes the listener by portraying the afterlife journey as a dark, difficult road without rest, provisions, or companions. He stresses that no relative or friend can follow; only the traveler’s deeds accompany them.
