Impermanence, Svabhāva, and Śuka’s Resolve for Yoga

Educational Q&A

Endurance and disciplined tapas lead to inner cooling (śānti) and readiness for higher knowledge; when the seeker is purified and steadied, sacred learning—up to the Upaniṣadic culmination—can become firmly established within.

Yājñavalkya describes being scorched by ascetic heat; the Sun-god instructs him to endure briefly until the heat naturally subsides. Once cooled, the Sun blesses him that the complete Veda, including its culminating teachings (uttara/Upaniṣads), will be established in him.
