Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
वर्णाश्रमकृतैर्धर्मविपरीतं क्वचित्समम् | गतान्तैरध्यवसितमत्याश्रममिदं व्रतम्
varṇāśramakṛtair dharma-viparītaṃ kvacit samam | gatāntair adhyavasitam atyāśramam idaṃ vratam ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Pháp hành này, có mặt thì trái với các pháp được định hình bởi hệ thống giai tầng và nếp sống (varṇa–āśrama), có mặt thì lại hòa hợp với chúng. Những bậc đã đến tận cùng con đường—những người biết rõ kết luận đã an định—đã kiên quyết chọn lấy. Lời nguyện này vượt ngoài (và cao hơn) các āśrama thông thường.”
