Jāpakānāṃ Gatiḥ — The Destinies of Japa-Practitioners (Śānti Parva 12.190)

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that greed (lobha) and anger (krodha) must be restrained by every available method; such restraint is itself a purifying practice and a hallmark of true self-mastery (ātmasaṃyama), especially for those pursuing wisdom (jñāna).

In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Bharadvāja delivers moral instruction, emphasizing inner discipline as a foundation for peace and right conduct.
