Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
यश्न वेदप्रसूतात्मा स धर्मो गुणदर्शन: । धर्मप्रत्यय उद्दिष्टो यथाधर्म कृतात्मभि:
yaś ca vedaprasūtātmā sa dharmo guṇadarśanaḥ | dharmapratyaya uddiṣṭo yathādharma kṛtātmabhiḥ ||
Bhishma nói: Điều mà bản thể của nó được hiển lộ từ các Veda thì được gọi là Dharma. Dharma tất yếu làm cho những phẩm tính của chính mình—những kết quả lợi ích—hiện bày. Vì vậy, những người có hạnh kiểm thanh tịnh đã quy định hình phạt dựa trên niềm tin vào Dharma, và phải thi hành đúng theo Dharma.
