Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances
बभूवामर्षितो राजा वध॑ चास्य व्यरोचयत् । सियारकी यह चपलता सुनकर शेर गुस्सेसे भर गया। उससे यह बात सही नहीं गयी; अतः मृगराजने उसका वध करनेका ही विचार कर लिया
babhūvāmṛṣito rājā vadhaṃ cāsya vyarocayat |
Bhīṣma nói: Nhà vua bừng bừng phẫn nộ, và ý nghĩ giết hắn trở nên vừa lòng trong tâm. Nghe sự lả lơi, bất chính của con chó rừng, chúa sơn lâm nổi giận không kìm được; vì không thể dung thứ, nên bậc chúa tể muôn thú quyết định giết nó.
भीष्म उवाच
Unchecked anger and intolerance can quickly turn judgment into a desire for violent punishment; dharma requires restraint and careful discernment before deciding on a person's death.
A ruler (likened to or identified with a lion in the accompanying narration) hears of someone's capricious or improper behavior, becomes indignant, cannot bear it, and consequently resolves that the offender should be killed.
