Durgātitaraṇa—Conduct for Crossing Difficulties (दुर्गातितरणम्)

मधु मांसं च ये नित्यं वर्जयन्तीह मानवा: । जन्मप्रभृति मद्यं च दुर्गण्यतितरन्ति ते,जो मानव जन्मसे ही सदाके लिये मधु, मांस और मदिराका त्याग कर देते हैं, वे भी दुस्तर दुःखोंसे छूट जाते हैं

madhu māṁsaṁ ca ye nityaṁ varjayantīha mānavāḥ | janmaprabhṛti madyaṁ ca durgaṇy atitaranti te ||

Bhishma nói: Những người ở đời này luôn kiêng mật ong và thịt, lại từ khi sinh ra đã đoạn tuyệt rượu và các chất gây say—những người ấy vượt qua được cả những khổ đau nặng nề, khó bề vượt thoát. Ý nghĩa đạo đức là: sự tiết chế trong ăn uống và chất say trở thành con đường tự thanh lọc và giải thoát khỏi ưu não.
