Vaiśampāyana uvāca | śṛṇu mātṛgaṇān rājan kumārānucarān imān | kīrtyamānān mayā vīra sapatnagaṇasūdanān ||

Vaiśampāyana nói: “Ôi đức vua, hãy nghe ta kể về các đoàn Mātṛkā—những ‘Mẫu Thần’ hầu cận Kumāra (Skanda/Kārttikeya). Ôi dũng sĩ, khi ta xướng danh họ, hãy biết họ là những sức mạnh diệt trừ đạo quân thù địch—những quyền năng được khơi gọi trong tưởng tượng đạo đức của chiến tranh, để khuất phục kiêu mạn và gìn giữ trật tự chính nghĩa.”
