Adhyāya 6: Śibira-dvāra-sthita Bhūta-varṇana and Aśvatthāmā’s Śaraṇāgati to Mahādeva

na caitad abhijānāmi cintayann api sarvathā | dhruvaṁ yeyam adharme me pravṛttā kaluṣā matiḥ ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights moral causality: when one’s intention (mati) becomes tainted and turns toward adharma, the resulting suffering and fearful outcomes are experienced as inevitable consequences.

Sañjaya expresses confusion and inability to identify what he is encountering, and he interprets the frightening situation as the sure outcome of his own morally stained resolve that had moved toward unrighteous action.
