Adhyāya 33: Antarvedī-Samāgama, Arghya-Nirṇaya, and Śiśupāla’s Objection
स्वकोष्ठस्य परीमाणं कोशस्य च महीपति: । विज्ञाय राजा कौन्तेयो यज्ञायैव मनो दथे,कुन्तीनन्दन राजा युधिष्ठिरने अपने अन्न-वस्त्रके भंडार तथा खजानेका परिमाण जानकर यज्ञ करनेका ही निश्चय किया
svakoṣṭhasya parīmāṇaṁ kośasya ca mahīpatiḥ | vijñāya rājā kaunteyo yajñāyaiva mano dadhe |
Vaiśampāyana nói: Sau khi đã biết rõ mức độ các kho lương và quy mô quốc khố của mình, vua Yudhiṣṭhira—con của Kuntī—chỉ chuyên nhất một lòng quyết định cử hành tế lễ (yajña).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A righteous ruler evaluates resources responsibly and directs wealth toward dharmic, socially beneficial acts—here, the resolve to perform yajña—showing restraint and prioritizing public duty over personal consumption.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that King Yudhiṣṭhira first assesses the extent of his stores and treasury, and then firmly decides to undertake a sacrificial rite, indicating preparation and intentional commitment to a major dharmic undertaking.
