The Commencement of the Great Departure

The core teaching is the disciplined relinquishment of instruments of power once their dharmic role is finished: a warrior’s famed weapon has no place in the ethic of withdrawal and detachment that marks the final journey.
As the Pāṇḍavas proceed toward their final departure, the instruction is given that Arjuna (Phālguna) should leave behind the Gāṇḍīva and go to the forest, signaling the end of his identity as a battlefield hero and the beginning of renunciant travel.
