तत् तादृशं प्रेक्ष्य महारथस्य कर्णस्य वीर्य च परैरसहाम् । दृष्टवा च कर्णेन धनंजयस्य तथा5डजिमध्ये निहतं तदस्त्रम्,महारथी कर्णका वह शत्रुओंके लिये असहा वैसा पराक्रम दृष्टिपथमें लाकर तथा रणभूमिमें कर्णद्वारा अर्जुनके उस अस्त्रको नष्ट हुआ देखकर अमर्षशील वायुपुत्र भीमसेन हाथ-से-हाथ मलने लगे। उनके नेत्र क्रोधसे प्रज्वलित हो उठे। हृदयमें अमर्ष और क्रोधका प्रादुर्भाव हो गया; अतः वे सत्यप्रतिज्ञ अर्जुनसे इस प्रकार बोले--
tad tādṛśaṁ prekṣya mahārathasya karṇasya vīryaṁ ca parair asahām | dṛṣṭvā ca karṇena dhanaṁjayasya tathā raṇamadhye nihataṁ tad astram |
Sañjaya thưa: “Thấy uy lực của đại xa thủ Karṇa—một sức mạnh khiến kẻ thù không sao chịu nổi—và lại thấy giữa trận mạc Karṇa đã hóa giải vũ khí ấy của Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), Bhīmasena, người con của thần Gió, không thể nhẫn chịu, liền bứt rứt vì giận. Mắt chàng bừng cháy lửa phẫn nộ; uất hận và cuồng nộ dâng trào trong lòng, và chàng nói với Arjuna, người giữ lời thệ nguyện vững bền, như sau.”
