Chapter 45
निरस्तनेत्रजिल्लान्त्रा वाजिन: सह सादिभि: । पतिताः: पात्यमानाश्ष क्षितौ क्षीणाश्ष शेरते
nirastanetrajihvāntarā vājiṇaḥ saha sādibhiḥ | patitāḥ pātyamānāś ca kṣitau kṣīṇāḥ śerate |
Sañjaya nói: “Những con ngựa, mắt, lưỡi và ruột gan trào ra, nằm la liệt trên mặt đất—con đã ngã, con đang gục xuống khi bị đánh trúng—thân thể nát bươm, kiệt sức, với kỵ sĩ nằm bên cạnh.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the stark impermanence of bodily life and the grave human (and animal) cost of war; it implicitly cautions against delusion about glory, reminding that violence culminates in suffering and helplessness.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the battlefield aftermath: horses, grievously wounded with organs protruding, lie dead or dying on the ground along with their riders, conveying the intensity and devastation of the fighting.
