Śalya nói: “Bất cứ lời nào ta có thể nói với Karṇa—dù thuận tai hay chói tai—vì mong điều lợi cho chàng, xin ngươi và Karṇa hãy tha thứ tất thảy, trọn vẹn.”
शल्य उवाच
Even when one speaks words that may sound harsh, if the intention is the other’s welfare (hita), such counsel should be received without resentment; the speaker also seeks pardon in advance to keep the focus on benefit rather than offense.
Śalya, positioned to address Karṇa in a tense wartime setting, prefaces forthcoming counsel or criticism by stating that whether his words are pleasing or displeasing, they are meant for Karṇa’s good and should be wholly forgiven by Karṇa and the listener addressed as ‘bhavān’.
