कर्णेन युधिष्ठिरानीकविदारणम् / Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line
आराधयिततवान् शर्व बहून् वर्षगणांस्तदा । दुर्योधन कहता हैं--तदनन्तर परशुरामने बहुत वर्षोतक तपस्या, इन्द्रिय-संयम, मनोनिग्रह, पूजा, उपहार, भेंट, अर्पण, होम और मन्त्र-जप आदि साथनोंद्वारा भगवान् शिवकी आराधना की
ārādhayitavān śarvaṁ bahūn varṣa-gaṇāṁs tadā |
Duryodhana nói: “Khi ấy, ông ta đã thờ phụng Śarva (Śiva) suốt nhiều năm.” Câu này nêu bật đạo lý của kỷ luật và lòng sùng kính bền bỉ—một nỗ lực lâu dài, được điều phục và hướng về quyền năng tối thượng—mà sử thi thường xem là con đường đạt được ân huệ và sức mạnh phi thường; rồi về sau, sức mạnh ấy có thể được dùng thuận theo dharma hoặc trái nghịch dharma.
