अध्याय २९: कर्णस्य शल्यं प्रति शापस्मरणं च युद्धनिश्चयः | Chapter 29: Karṇa recalls curses to Śalya and declares resolve for battle
महाराज! उस समय अन्धकार और विशेषत: धूलसे सब कुछ आच्छादित होनेके कारण हमलोग किसी भी शुभ या अशुभ वस्तुको देख नहीं पाते थे ।।
sañjaya uvāca |
mahārāja! tasmin samaye andhakāra-viśeṣeṇa ca dhūlinā sarvaṃ samantād āvṛtaṃ babhūva; tena vayaṃ na kiñcid api śubham aśubhaṃ vā vastu draṣṭuṃ śaśakima ||
te trasanto maheṣvāsā rātriyuddhasya bhārata |
apayānaṃ tataś cakruḥ sahitāḥ sarvayodhibhiḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: Tâu Đại vương, khi ấy bóng tối—lại thêm bụi mù nghẹt thở—phủ kín mọi nơi, khiến chúng thần không thể nhận ra dấu hiệu nào, lành hay dữ. Rồi những cung thủ kiệt xuất ấy, sợ giao chiến ban đêm, liền rút lui; cùng toàn thể quân sĩ, họ quay về và rời khỏi chiến địa hướng về doanh trại.
