Droṇa Parva, Chapter 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s grief after Bhīṣma’s fall and the army’s reorientation toward Karṇa
The verse underscores how grief and attachment (especially to one’s own children and faction) can coexist with—and even fuel—continued craving for victory, revealing an ethical blindness that prolongs suffering and obstructs clear discernment of dharma.
After Bhīṣma’s fall/death is reported, Dhṛtarāṣṭra becomes deeply dejected and laments intensely, yet he still yearns for the triumph of his sons, showing the Kaurava camp’s emotional turmoil at the loss of their foremost elder and commander.
