अरक्षन्मकरव्यूहं भीष्मो राजन् समन्ततः । तथैव पाण्डवा राजन्नरक्षन् व्यूहमात्मन:,राजन! भीष्म सेनाका मकरव्यूह बनाकर सब ओरसे उसकी रक्षा करने लगे। इसी प्रकार पाण्डवोंने भी अपने व्यूहकी रक्षा की

arakṣan makaravyūhaṃ bhīṣmo rājan samantataḥ |
tathaiva pāṇḍavā rājann arakṣan vyūham ātmanaḥ ||
Sañjaya thưa: Tâu Đại vương, Bhīṣma bày thế trận “Makara” và giữ gìn nó vững chắc từ mọi phía. Cũng vậy, tâu Đại vương, phe Pāṇḍava cũng bảo vệ thế trận của mình.
