Chapter 7: Dvīpa–Varṣa–Meru-varṇana
Description of the Dvīpa, Varṣas, and Mount Meru
The verse presents a dharmic ideal of social life: mutual devotion and concord among people, coupled with health and sustained inner cheerfulness. It implies that harmony and well-being are marks of a rightly ordered community.
Sanjaya is describing a distant, exemplary region (Uttarakuru in the common contextual gloss) to Dhritarashtra, portraying its inhabitants as mutually affectionate like paired cakravāka birds and as consistently healthy and joyful.
