विव्याध समरे राजन् सर्वलोकस्य पश्यत: । राजन! तब सेनापति श्वेतने कुपित हो उस समरभूमिमें बहुत-से लौहमय बाणोंद्वारा सब लोगोंके देखते-देखते भीष्मको क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया ।।
vivyādha samare rājan sarvalokasya paśyataḥ |
Sañjaya nói: Tâu Đại vương, ngay giữa chiến trận, trước mắt muôn người, hắn đã dùng tên đâm xuyên đối thủ. Cảnh ấy cho thấy bạo lực công khai trong chiến tranh không chỉ là chiến công cá nhân, mà còn là một cuộc phô bày định hình sĩ khí, nỗi sợ và bầu không khí đạo lý của chiến trường.
