विकृष्य बलवान् भीष्म: समाधत्त दुरासदम् | ब्रह्मास्त्रेण सुसंयुक्त तं शरं लोमवाहिनम्
sañjaya uvāca | vikṛṣya balavān bhīṣmaḥ samādhatta durāsadam | brahmāstreṇa susaṃyuktaṃ taṃ śaraṃ lomavāhinam ||
Sañjaya thưa: Bhīṣma lực lưỡng kéo căng cung, đặt lên dây một mũi tên ghê gớm, khó bề chống đỡ. Mũi tên ấy mang những cánh lông rợn người; rồi ông gia lực cho nó bằng Brahmāstra, biến nó thành vũ khí không thể cưỡng, và phóng đi, quyết đánh trúng cả mục tiêu khó nhất. Cảnh ấy cho thấy sự leo thang u ám của chiến tranh, khi sở học binh khí thiêng được dùng cho hủy diệt chứ không phải kiềm chế.
