देवदूतवच: श्रुत्वा वधे तस्य मनो दे | उस कटे हुए धनुषको फेंककर पितामह भीष्मने देवदूतके कथनपर ध्यान देकर तुरंत ही श्वेतके वधका निश्चय किया
devadūta-vacaḥ śrutvā vadhe tasya mano dadhe | utsṛjya chinnaṃ dhanuḥ śvetasya vadha-niścayaṃ pitāmaho bhīṣmaḥ kṛtavān ||
Sañjaya nói: Nghe lời của sứ giả thần linh, Bhīṣma liền định tâm vào việc giết Śveta. Ném bỏ cây cung đã gãy, bậc tổ phụ chăm chú vào mệnh lệnh từ cõi trời và tức khắc quyết ý khiến Śveta phải chết—một hành động được đặt trong khuôn khổ vâng theo thượng lệnh giữa những tất yếu khắc nghiệt của chiến tranh.
