शृणु मे विस्तरेणेदं विचित्र परमाद्भुतम् । भरतानामभूद् युद्ध यथा तल्लोमहर्षणम्
sañjaya uvāca | śṛṇu me vistareṇedaṃ vicitraṃ paramādbhutam | bharatānām abhūd yuddhaṃ yathā tal lomaharṣaṇam, rājan |
Sañjaya thưa: Tâu Đại vương, xin hãy nghe thần thuật lại tường tận câu chuyện kỳ dị và tối thượng kinh ngạc này—chiến tranh của dòng Bharata đã phát sinh như thế nào, lạ lùng và rợn người đến nỗi khiến tóc gáy dựng đứng. Trước hết, thần cúi đầu đảnh lễ bậc hiền trí Vyāsa—con của Parāśara—nhờ ân của ngài mà thần được tri thức thần linh và những năng lực tri giác phi thường; nay thần bắt đầu kể lại cuộc chiến kỳ diệu và chấn động ấy của dòng Bharata, đúng như đã xảy ra.
