तस्मिन्नयुतशो राजन भूयशश्व परंतप: । भीष्म: शान्तनवो योधाञ्जघान परमास्त्रवित्
tasminn ayutaśo rājan bhūyaś ca parantapaḥ | bhīṣmaḥ śāntanavo yodhān jaghāna paramāstravit ||
Sañjaya nói: “Trong trận chiến ấy, tâu Đại vương, Bhīṣma—con của Śāntanu, kẻ làm quân thù khiếp đảm và bậc thượng trí về các thiên binh—hết lần này đến lần khác đã chém giết chiến sĩ đến hàng vạn. Câu kệ nêu bật sức mạnh áp đảo của nghệ thuật chiến trận nơi Bhīṣma, đồng thời gợi lên gánh nặng đạo lý u ám của cuộc tàn sát tập thể trong một cuộc chiến mà dharma đã rạn vỡ.”
