Ulūpī’s Disclosure and the Saṃjīvana-Maṇi: Arjuna’s Restoration (उलूपी-प्रकटनं संजीवनमणि-स्थापनं च)
कच्चित् ते पृथुलश्रोणि नाप्रियं प्रियदर्शने । अकार्षमहमज्ञानादयं वा बभ्रुवाहन:,स्थूल नितम्बवाली प्रियदर्शने! मैंने या इस बभ्रुवाहनने अनजानमें तुम्हारा कोई अप्रिय तो नहीं किया है?
Arjuna uvāca | kaccit te pṛthulaśroṇi nāpriyaṃ priyadarśane | akāṛṣam aham ajñānād ayaṃ vā babhruvāhanaḥ ||
Arjuna nói: “Hỡi người nương hông rộng, hỡi giai nhân khả ái—ta vì vô tri mà đã làm điều gì khiến nàng phật ý chăng? Hay chính Babhruvāhana này đã gây điều xúc phạm khiến nàng giận?”
अर्जुन उवाच
The verse models ethical self-scrutiny and accountability: even a great warrior like Arjuna checks whether he has caused harm unknowingly and is willing to acknowledge fault. It also shows restraint and respect in speech while seeking reconciliation.
In the Ashvamedha context, Arjuna is engaged in events involving Babhruvāhana. Addressing a woman respectfully (pṛthulaśroṇi, priyadarśane), he asks whether she has been offended—either by Arjuna himself through ignorance or by Babhruvāhana—indicating tension that needs clarification and repair.
