वैशम्पायन उवाच सतुतं ब्राह्मणो भूत्वा तस्य दुःखेन दुःखित: । उत्तड़कमब्रवीत् वाक््यं नैतच्छक्यं त्वयेति वै
vaiśampāyana uvāca | sa tu taṃ brāhmaṇo bhūtvā tasya duḥkhena duḥkhitaḥ | uttaṅkam abravīd vākyaṃ naitac chakyaṃ tvayeti vai |
Vaiśampāyana nói: Indra, đau nỗi đau của Uttanka, bèn khoác hình dạng một Bà-la-môn và bảo ông: “Này Bà-la-môn, việc này ông không thể làm được. Cõi Nāga ở cách đây hàng nghìn do-tuần; dùng một cây gậy gỗ tầm thường mà mở đường đến đó, ta e là điều không thể.” Lời khuyên ấy là lòng bi mẫn theo chính pháp: ngăn một nỗ lực bất khả thi và tự hại, mà vẫn thấu hiểu nỗi sầu của người cầu đạo.
