Sāttvika-vṛtta-kathana (Brahmā on the Conduct of Sattva) — Chapter 38
मुधा दानं मुधा यज्ञो मुधा5धीतं मुधा व्रतम् । मुधा प्रतिग्रहश्वैव मुधा धर्मो मुधा तप:
vāyudeva uvāca | mudhā dānaṁ mudhā yajño mudhādhītaṁ mudhā vratam | mudhā pratigrahaś caiva mudhā dharmo mudhā tapaḥ ||
Vāyudeva nói: “Bố thí là vô ích, tế tự là vô ích, học tập là vô ích, và thệ nguyện là vô ích; thọ nhận lễ vật cũng vô ích; ngay cả ‘dharma’ và khổ hạnh cũng vô ích—khi chúng được theo đuổi với dục vọng ích kỷ. Hiểu như vậy, những ai, trong khi giữ gìn hạnh kiểm đúng đắn đã nói ở trên, nương tựa vào chân thật giữa đời này và kiên trú nơi Đại Phạm (Brahman Tối Thượng), cội nguồn phát sinh của Veda—chính họ mới thật được xem là các brāhmaṇa vững chãi và sáng suốt.”
