Kuntī–Vyāsa Dialogue on Durvāsā’s Boon and Karṇa’s Birth

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma expressed as steadfast performance of obligatory rites: after observing ritual purity requirements, a righteous king honors the departed through properly conducted śrāddha and through generous dakṣiṇā. Ethical kingship is shown not only in governance but in faithful adherence to sacred duty, gratitude, and respectful giving.

Following the deaths of Dhṛtarāṣṭra and others, Yudhiṣṭhira completes the required purification period and, on the twelfth day, arranges and performs the śrāddha ceremonies. He ensures the rites are done according to prescription and provides substantial gifts/fees to the Brahmins involved.
