Chatra–Upānah Dāna: Origin Narrative
Jamadagni–Reṇukā–Sūrya Saṃvāda
पर्वतने कहा--जो आपका कमल ले गया हो, वह गाँवका मुखिया हो जाय, गधेकी सवारीपर चले तथा पेट भरनेके लिये कुत्तोंकी साथ लेकर शिकार खेले ।।
bharadvāja uvāca | sarvapāpasamādānaṁ nṛśaṁse cānṛte ca yat | tat tasyāstu sadā pāpaṁ yas te harati puṣkaram ||
Bharadvāja nói: “Nguyện mọi tội lỗi thuộc về kẻ tàn nhẫn và kẻ dối trá—trọn gánh ác nghiệp—mãi mãi đổ xuống kẻ đã trộm đóa sen của ngươi.”
भरद्वाज उवाच
The verse condemns theft by morally classifying the thief alongside the cruel and the untruthful, implying that stealing is not a minor lapse but a breach of dharma that draws comprehensive demerit (pāpa).
Bharadvāja pronounces an imprecation: whoever has taken the addressed person’s lotus should continually incur the totality of sin associated with cruelty and falsehood—an ethical warning framed as a curse.
