गोप्रदानगुणाः तथा कपिलागोविधानम्

हृष्ट-पुष्ट, सीधी-सादी, जवान और उत्तम गन्धवाली सभी गौएँ प्रशंसनीय मानी गयी हैं। जैसे गंगा सब नदियोंमें श्रेष्ठ हैं, उसी प्रकार कपिला गौ सब गौआओंमें उत्तम है ।।

Transliteration

tisro rātrīs tv adbhir upoṣya bhūmau tṛptā gāvas tarpitibhyaḥ pradeyāḥ | vatsaiḥ puṣṭaiḥ kṣīrapaiḥ supracārās tryahaṃ dattvā gorasair vartitavyam ||

Translation

Bhīṣma nói: “Người bố thí hãy nhịn ăn ba đêm, chỉ nương vào nước mà sống và nằm ngủ trên đất. Sau khi cho đàn bò ăn cỏ và thức ăn đến no đủ, lại làm cho các bà-la-môn được thỏa lòng bằng cơm nước và sự kính lễ xứng đáng, rồi mới đem những con bò ấy mà bố thí. Bò phải hiền lành, sung sức, đi kèm những bê con khỏe mạnh còn đang bú sữa. Sau khi bố thí bò, người thí chủ nên sống ba ngày chỉ dùng các sản vật từ sữa (goras).”
