Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)

भारत! इस प्रकार गोदान, तिलदान और भूमिदानका महत्त्व बतलाया गया। अब पुनः अन्नदानकी महिमा सुनो ।।

bhīṣma uvāca |

bhārata! evaṃ prakāreṇa godāna-tiladāna-bhūmidānayoḥ māhātmyaṃ pradarśitam | idānīṃ punaḥ annadānasya mahimāṃ śṛṇu ||

annadānaṃ pradhānaṃ hi kaunteya paricakṣate |

annasya hi pradānena rantidevo divaṃ gataḥ ||

Bhīṣma nói: “Hỡi Bharata, như vậy sự cao cả của việc bố thí bò, bố thí mè (vừng) và bố thí đất đã được giảng rõ. Nay hãy nghe nữa về vinh quang của bố thí lương thực. Hỡi con của Kuntī, bậc hiền trí nói rằng cho ăn là tối thượng trong mọi bố thí; bởi nhờ bố thí lương thực mà vua Rantideva đã lên cõi trời.”
