अपनी पत्नी सत्यवतीको गर्भवती अवस्थामें देखकर भृगुश्रेष्ठ महर्षि ऋचीकका मन खिन्न हो गया ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | svāṁ patnīṁ satyavatīṁ garbhiṇīm avalokya bhṛguśreṣṭhasya maharṣeḥ ṛcīkasya manaḥ khinnaṁ babhūva | vyatyāsena upayuktaḥ te caruḥ vyaktaḥ bhaviṣyati | vyatyāsaḥ pādape cāpi suvyaktaṁ te kṛtaḥ śubhe |

Bhīṣma nói: Thấy vợ mình là Satyavatī đang mang thai, đại hiền Ṛcīka—bậc tối thượng trong dòng Bhṛgu—lòng buồn phiền. Ngài nói: “Hỡi người nữ cát tường, rõ ràng nàng đã dùng phần cháo tế (caru) theo cách đảo ngược. Cũng vậy, trong việc ôm lấy các thân cây, các người đã hoán đổi cho nhau—điều ấy hiện ra rất rõ.”
