Adhyāya 39 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s inquiry on attachment (saṅga) and relational restraint

अपि च ज्ञानसम्पन्न: सर्वान्‌ वेदान्‌ पितुर्गृहि । श्लाघमान इवाधीयादू ग्राम्य इत्येव त॑ विदु:

api ca jñāna-sampannaḥ sarvān vedān pitur gṛhe | ślāghamāna ivādhīyād grāmya ity eva taṃ viduḥ ||

Hơn nữa, dẫu một người đầy đủ tri thức và học trọn các Veda ngay tại nhà cha—trông như đáng được tán dương—thì bậc học giả vẫn xem người ấy chỉ là kẻ “nhà quê”. Ý nghĩa đạo lý ngầm chỉ rằng: sự xuất sắc chân chính trong việc học Veda gắn liền với đời sống môn đệ có kỷ luật dưới sự dẫn dắt của thầy (guru), chịu đựng gian khổ trong nhà thầy, chứ không phải học thong thả nơi gia cư.
