Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma in practice: honoring the deceased through proper rites, using appropriate materials, and maintaining solemn decorum. It models ethical restraint—those not directly engaged stand aside respectfully—showing that duty and reverence guide conduct even amid grief.

After the preceding events, the Pāṇḍava(s), together with Vidura and Yuyutsu, gather firewood and fragrant substances and construct a funeral pyre. Others remain at a distance, observing, emphasizing the gravity and formality of the moment.
