Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
The verse frames a dharmic setting by linking family identity with proximity to sages and their āśrama, implying that moral formation and right conduct are nurtured through contact with pure-minded ascetics and sacred spaces.
Vāsudeva identifies himself as someone’s son and names Dhaumya as his younger brother; he then begins a recollection: while playing with Dhaumya, he arrived at the hermitage of holy sages, setting up the next events of the story.
